Rifle
Platoon Custom Maps Readme
Rifle
Platoon is a realism mod for Call of Duty. In fact, it is THE most realistic
version of Call of Duty! It has most of the realism features which most of the
realism mods out there have, as well as some new not-seen-before-in-CoD
features.
You’ll find
Rifle Platoon itself along with a readme at this location:

This readme
accompanies a map pack I put together with custom maps I played during test
sessions for Rifle Platoon, and which I found to play really well using RP.
About the map pack
Note that I
did NOT create the maps in this map pack, nor did anyone associated with the
development of Rifle Platoon! I only made sure they worked correctly in Rifle
platoon by adding some code to the mod (mostly having to do with directions –
some maps mistake north for east for instance). In some cases, I made little
changes to the map scripts which come with every map (for instance, on the
Viaduct map I removed the random mortar explosions as in RP an officer can
request a barrage on a certain location himself).
The site
where I got these maps (the Dread clan site) did not have any contact details
for the creators, and when I asked them if they knew no reply was forthcoming,
so I can’t give named credit to the makers of these maps. If you see one or
more of your maps in here, be sure to contact me, and you will get the credit
you deserve (or the map will be removed from the map pack if you don’t agree on
it being distributed this way).
If on the
other hand you made or know of a map which would really fit in well with Rifle
Platoon, we would love to hear about it too! If necessary we can make a small
patch for RP which makes the map work correctly (see below).
Using other custom maps
There are
two conditions a map should fulfill to have it be compatible with Rifle
Platoon:
n it should support Search & Destroy
or Retrieval spawn points. If it doesn’t, and you try to start RP with this
map, the map will load in DM (RP will not be loaded).
n it should use the same direction for
north as does the stock map Bocage (among others). In some maps, if you
calculate an origin towards the north (as indicated by the compass), you
actually get an origin towards another diredtion (usually east or west, but
sometimes even south). I don’t know anything about map making, so I don’t know
how mappers could prevent this, and anyway, some stock maps display the same
behavior, so it’s hard to call any method right or wrong. I used Bocage as a
start, so if the same way to indicate north as Bocage does is used, the map or
the code will not need adjusting to have barrages work correctly.
The first
condition is vital: if a map doesn’t have S&D or RE spawn poitns, you can’t
play that map with Rifle Platoon. The second is not so big a problem, except as
explained above a barrage requested in a certain direction may land in another
direction.
