SlipCover Help

Slipcover is an application for applying custom Icons to your media files. These icons are created by combining two sources; a custom image and a case.

Using SlipCover

There are two stages in using SlipCover. You start by dropping any number of images. These images will typically be movie posters or game covers, but Slipcover is in no way limited to that. When you've done so, the interface will expand to show you preview of the new cases in a grid. You can use the pop-up on the bottom to change to a different case and the previews will adjust themselves to this new case.

When you are satisfied with the case icons, you will want to export them or apply them to a file. To export the case images, drag the from SlipCover to the finder and a .icns file will be created. An .icns file is the standard icon format for Mac OS X. You can also choose File > Save All... from the menu. Use this way if you are really interested in the icon file itself and when you want to keep it for later use.

A faster way

A faster way to use the icon file is to drag a file from the finder to the icon in slipcover. The icon in SlipCover will highlight itself and when you drop the file, SlipCover will apply the icon to the file you dropped on it. You can repeat this process with as many files and icons as you like.

Creating your own

There is not much more to using SlipCover. It is a simple application designed with one goal in mind. An important feature of SlipCover is that anyone can create his own cases and share them with the world. A case file is very easy to create and can be used by any copy of SlipCover. We've published a few documents on our website which explain how to create icon files. You can view them by going to the website and choose cases. You can download more cases there and learn how to create your own.
