Importing Files

There are several ways to manually add music files to your Swinsian Library; for more automated importing of files set up Folder Watching.

  • Choose ‘Add Files to Library…’ from the File menu, then select the files or folders you wish to import.

  • Drag files or folders onto the Swinsian application icon, either in the dock or in the Finder.

  • Drag the files or folders onto the ‘All Tracks’ item in the source list in the main Swinsian window.

  • To import files and also add them to a playlist, drag them onto a playlist item in the source list in the main window.

  • Similarly, instead of dragging files onto the items in the source list, the files can be dragged onto the main table after selecting the target playlist or the library.

If your music files are already in an iTunes library Swinsian can import the iTunes library directly. Select ‘Import iTunes Library…’ from the File menu and locate the XML version of the library file (usually in the iTunes Music Folder).

What happens to the files once imported?

By default files that are imported are not moved or copied, but you can set Swinsian to copy or move the files to your library folder (see Changing the Library Folder Location) by changing the options in Library tab of the preferences. Note: Watched Folders have separate rules that determines what happens to new files, see Setting Up Folder Watching.
